The 1% excise tax (sales and use tax) has been in effect in Campbell County since 1976. For more than 30 years, the dollars generated by the 1% sales tax have remained in Campbell County for projects in Gillette, Wright and throughout the County.

Why should the 1% sales and use tax be supported?

The 1% sales and use tax is an effective means of taxing ourselves to support the needs of our communities and county. The identified projects develop our infrastructure, improve our services and continue to enhance the quality of our communities. These projects create jobs, employ local workers and provide a mechanism to promote economic development in our area

Funds have been used to purchase playground equipment in many County parks.

Penny Power has paid for drainage improvements and has been used to improve sidewalks and paths.

Senior Center

The County funded the Senior Citizen Center with 1% funds, and provides ongoing support for the Senior Center, its programs, and activities.

Wright

Wright has nearly seven miles of bike paths and a portion of the Optional 1% Sales Tax is used annually to overlay and extend pathways. It’s also been used to put lighting up near these paths so that the Town can display banners and lit Christmas decorations. The 1% sales tax is especially important to the Town of Wright, because the Town relies on it for roughly 33 percent of its operational expenses.

We’ll be at the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce Ice Cream with the Candidates on July 26. Visit with our PAC members about the power of the penny, and enjoy some delicious ice cream from Expresso Lube and The Ice Cream Cafe.
