“The 1 Percent has been invaluable when it comes to streets and sidewalks,” Mayor Louise Carter-King said. “To rely on the 1 Percent for those projects has been great for our city.”
Carter-King also pointed out that according to city code, residents would have to maintain and repair their own sidewalks if the city didn’t do it through the 1 Percent.
Michelle Henderson, the city’s finance director, said that in the last 10 years, more than 51 percent of money collected with the 1 Percent has gone to street and sidewalk repairs.”
